We will do a brief overview of some of the Excel functions then you will head to the lab to practice. We will send the next couple of weeks on Excel so today will only be a brief introduction.
Excel Database Activity
Due Tuesday February 5, 2013
Using your Excel database complete the following steps:
1. Open
an new Excel document
2. Label
the first column 1A - color
3. Label
the second column 1B - saying
4. Label
the third column 1C – total
5. Label
the forth column 1D percentage
6. Insert
a header (Conversation Hearts) and footer; the footer must include the date.
7. Open
you hearts and in column A record the color, in column B record the saying, and
in column C record the number of occurrences of the color and the saying (most
will only have 1).
8. Once
you have your data recorded complete the percentage column D.
9. In
column C format the column so it is set for percentage.
10. Use
the format button to make your auto fit your cell width.
11. Make
sure you have heading for each column, increase the font and make your titles
bold.
12. Use
the sort function to sort by the percentage from highest to lowest.
13. In
column C use the formula function to calculate the total of candy hearts.
14. In
column D use the formula function to calculate the total percentage of candy
hearts, your total should be 100%
15. Go
to the insert tab in the tool bar. Highlight columns B and C; insert a chart or
table representing the total of conversations.
16. Repeat
the same steps as in 15 to insert a chart representing the total of each color.
17. Spend
some time experimenting with charts to find the one the best represents the
data.
